Waddington Air Show 2009
A selection of images taken at the Waddington International Air Show Saturday 4th July 2009. They include some of the flying displays, static displays and anything else that attracted my attention on the day. Hope you enjoy
It is estimated about 100,000 people attended the Airshow on Saturday July 4th.
Waddington is home to the RAF’s intelligence and surveillance aircraft.
The star of the show was expected to be the Avro Vulcan XH558 but the aircraft was unable to fly as its flight permit had expired and it had not been possible to renew it in time for the show.
The Red Arrows pleased the crowd with their excellent display. The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight were present performing with a Lancaster, Spitfire, and Hurricane.
There were Helicopter displays featuring the Chinook and the Army Air Corps Blue Eagles, who performed with Apache and Lynx helicopters.
Foreign participation came in the shape of the Polish Air Force’s display team, Team Orlik.
The world’s only professional jet display team were present in the shape of the Breitling Team, flying former eastern bloc built L39 trainer aircraft. The French pilots performed a stunning routine.
For enthusiasts the static display proved interesting and included a German Air Force Phantom, Royal Norwegian Air Force F16s, RAF Tornado, Harrier and Typhoon jets along with many other military and civilian aircraft
The day ended with a noisy display from one of the RAF’s newest toys, a Typhoon F2 from 29(R) Sqn. The pilot demonstrated the agility of the aircraft by performing almost the entire display within the boundaries of the airfield, using plenty of afterburner.
